ABOUT

Wainui Marine is led by Paul Stock with assistance from Marion Verbeek. Paul is an Associate member International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) and writes the reports as well as carrying out the practical surveys. Paul is insured for marine surveys and inspections and holds the required Public Liability insurance and contractor registration for operation in New Zealand’s marinas and hard stand yards.

Both Paul and Marion are experienced sailors with many years spent cruising and racing bringing three kids up holidaying on boats off the east coast of New Zealand most years. We have owned many boats, currently enjoying the Davidson 42 “Spitfire” a 1989 classic kiwi built vessel that we have fully refitted and continue to optimise and use as a development platform.

   

Paul Stock experience

Paul has either designed, built, owned, skippered, raced, cruised, brokered, represented owners during builds, operated, documented, crewed  (or combinations of the above), on vessels  including: Racing dinghies, rowing dinghies, racing and cruising keelboats, launches, traditional boats, planning power boats, displacement power boats, sailing cats, power cats, commercial fishing boats, commercial tourist boats, Americas Cup boats (1995 build), trailer sailers – we love boats of all kinds.

Construction specialty

  • Composites with high modulus materials epoxies, carbon, cored constructions
  • Glued modern timber such as moulded diagonal, cedar core
  • Traditional timber – carvel, multi skin, clinker
  • “Fibreglass” GRP/FRP production – typically polyester/vinylester constructions with
  • Metals, their properties and galvanic differences

Design

Designer of innovative performance vessels including the lightweight yachts  13m Itchy Feet, 14m K2/Nikau, and refresh of the Davidson 42 “Spitfire”, many carbon and composite rudders.

Project management 

Build co ordination and planning, equipment and logistics, owner representation including full bespoke project co ordination of custom New Zealand built vessels – Masters degree in Project Management (MPM, UTS, Sydney)

Writing/documentation

Extensive experience writing technical marine and engineering related guides, vessel specification and planning, and reports of many kinds: survey reports and associated documentation,  journalistic writing, educational technical writing, business reports.

Qualifications:

Surveyor (Maritime New Zealand Certified) for:

  • In-construction and initial commercial vessel surveys. Vessels up to 15m operating in up to Restricted Coastal Limits – certified for wood and fibre reinforced composite.
  • Periodic commercial vessel surveys. Vessels up to 24m operating in up to Coastal Limits – certified for wood and fibre reinforced composite
