Wainui Marine is led by Paul Stock with assistance from Marion Verbeek.
Paul is an Associate of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) and a Recognised Maritime New Zealand Surveyor and maintains up to date with best practice in marine surveying through these organisations, and day to day interactions with other surveyors/inspectors, boatbuilders and boat industry practitioners. Paul carries insurance for marine surveys and inspections.
Both Paul and Marion are experienced sailors with many years spent cruising and racing bringing three kids up holidaying on boats off the east coast of New Zealand most years. We currently enjoy the Davidson 42 “Spitfire” a 1987 classic kiwi built vessel that we have fully refitted and continue to optimise and use as a development platform for ideas, systems and maintenance.

Paul Stock experience
Paul is a boatbuilder, having started in 1983 as an apprentice and completing the 9,000 hrs, night school and block courses for three years and passing exams to holding Trade Certificate and Advanced Trade Certificate in Ship Yacht and Boatbuilding.
Like many boatbuilders in those days he is extensively experienced in a wide range of construction types including timber, GRP (fibreglass) and high tech composites. He has also designed several boats including the 13m “Itchy Feet” (also built by Paul), the 14m Nikau, and various other designs. In the 1980s Boatbuilding training included basic boat design, and boats were commonly designed by their builders.
Paul has built all sorts of vessels and components in timber and composites. In 1995 he was part of the Mc Mullen and Wing team that built the winning Americas cup vessel NZL32 and it’s sparring partner NZL38.
After the Americas Cup boat construction, Paul tutored boatbuilding at Unitec for 5 years. This included tutoring industry apprentices at their off job training and full time students along with approximately 5 other tutors.
Paul has been self employed since 2000 and has provided services in owner representation, developing industry training standards and qualifications for the boatbuilding and other related industries alongside BITO (Mast Academy). He also provides project services, often development type projects including technical writing and vessel documentation.
These days the majority of our work is pre purchase and insurance inspections.
